Contra 2, better known on the NES as Super C, is the follow-up to the original Contra and keeps the same intense run-and-gun action while making everything feel a bit darker, tougher, and more aggressive. Players once again blast through waves of soldiers, machines, monsters, and alien creatures using familiar weapons like the spread gun, laser, and flamethrower, but this time the game replaces the original’s pseudo-3D base stages with top-down overhead sections that give it a different rhythm. The action is still fast, unforgiving, and clearly built around sharp reflexes, careful movement, and two-player chaos. While the first Contra is usually the more famous game, Super C is still a strong NES action title with great pacing, memorable enemy designs, and that classic “one more try” difficulty that made the Contra series so addictive.
