Populous is a 1991 strategy game for the Sega Master System that places players in the role of a powerful deity competing against a rival god for control of the world. From an isometric viewpoint, players reshape the landscape to create flat land where followers can build larger settlements, expand their population and generate the power needed to perform miracles such as earthquakes, floods, swamps and volcanic eruptions. By helping their civilisation grow while disrupting enemy territory, players must eventually defeat the opposing population across a huge number of increasingly challenging worlds, making Populous one of the most ambitious and unusual strategy games available on the Master System.
